Commissions

A piece that exists nowhere else

Some pieces can’t be found, so they have to be made. I design one-of-a-kind jewellery and miniature paintings in vitreous enamel and precious metal, made around a single person, a place or a story.

It might be for you: to mark a moment, to carry something that matters, or because you want something no one else will ever own. Or it might be for someone else, perhaps a person who loves art more than jewellery, or who has everything.

No two commissions are alike, and none will be made again.

What I make

Rings, including engagement and wedding rings. Pendants, brooches and cufflinks. Miniature paintings on enamel: a portrait, a landscape, or a place that matters to you.

How it works

1. A conversation. We meet in my atelier in Lewes, or speak by video or message. Tell me about the person it’s for, whether that’s you or someone you love: what they’re drawn to, the colours, the places and moments that matter. You may arrive with a clear idea, or with none at all. Either way, my part is to guide you to the best possible design.

2. Design. A £100 design deposit allows me to begin. I send sketches and colour ideas, and we refine them together until the design is right. The £100 is credited toward the final price.

3. Agreement. Once we’ve agreed the design, materials and price, a deposit of 50% of the agreed price secures your place in my diary, less the £100 already paid.

4. Making. Every piece is made entirely by hand in my studio. Enamel is built up and fired in many layers, which is why a commission takes one to two months. I’ll share photographs as it develops.

5. Handover. Your piece arrives in a navy presentation box, printed with my gold MH monogram, with a card signed by me telling the story of how it was made and how to care for it. The remaining 50% is due on completion.

Details

Commissions begin at £700 for sterling silver. Pieces in gold are priced according to the weight of gold and the market price on the day we agree the design. The £100 design deposit is non-refundable and is credited toward the final price.

For gifts and dates that matter, please get in touch at least three months ahead, which leaves time for the design conversation as well as the making.

 Between Two Shores

A surprise for someone who never wore jewellery: a view of her adopted home, with the amber of the country she came from. This is the pendant we made.
